It’ll be double-duty for defenders looking to stop UNC basketball star Joel Berry when he’s driving the lane.
Listed at 195-pounds, the 6-foot point guard added considerable muscle after an altered diet and lifting program this offseason. The Apopka, Florida native is entering his senior season at North Carolina and looking more like an NBA player than ever before.
Berry showed off his offseason transformation with a post on social media.
Big gains indeed. I’d be curious to know what the particulars are of his new diet and exercise regimen. Those are incredible gains for one offseason, and a testament to the kind of efforts it takes to become a National Champion.
Berry will be the starting point guard for North Carolina for the third consecutive season in 2017-18, and could find himself a viable draft candidate for in the NBA Draft next year. As part of a National Championship winning squad last year, he averaged 30.4 minutes per game, and shot 42 percent while averaging 14.7 points per game.
Improvements in his stat line will help, but scouts want to see his athleticism and physicality project to the NBA. He’s taken decisive step in that direction this summer.
