Heisman Trophy Odds 2017: Sam Darnold Remains Favorite

It seems that all the years of futility following the Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart years is due to end. The USC Trojans enter the 2017 season as optimistic as they have in many years, and potentially another Heisman Trophy winner on their roster.
Bovada has released their Heisman Trophy winner odds for the 2017 and Sam Darnold appears to have further entrenched himself as the favorite tot are home the hardware.
The Trojan quarterback has led the race pretty much the entire time. This offseason, while NFL teams were scouting PAC 12 defenders for the NFL Combine, word circulated that it was Sam Darnold that caught their attention most of all. He enters the season a 4/1 favorite to win the award.
He’s held those odds, and the role of front-runner since the wave of odds released in February of 2017.
Notably, Lamar Jackson sits in a tie for third place on the list. One of the more polarizing players this season in terms of what he can actually do on a football field, Jackson has already won a Heisman Trophy. And while man, including one (mostly) unidentified ACC coach thinks Jackson has no future in football, he maintains 8/1 odds to win its most prestigious trophy.
Bovada likes Penn State running back Saquon Barkley to win the award if Darnold doesn’t pull it out. Barkley is the only running back on the list being given a conceivable chance to win the award. By all accounts, it’ll likely go to a  quarterback again this year.
