The college football offseason is winding down. That means the real games are going to begin soon, and there will be plenty of actual gameplay to satisfy all of our cravings. It also means there won’t be many videos like these left.
One of the best parts of this time of year all of the videos that surface of walk-on players being awarded full ride athletic scholarships. On Monday, the Oregon Ducks got in the party.
While most teams are content to have the coach announce the awarded scholarship during a team meeting, the Ducks went one step further. During practice, they ran a video message on the big board with Kaulana Apelu’s mother delivering the news to her son.

Apelu faced long odds to get where he is. Multiple ACL tears coming out of high school restricted his recruiting options. After walking on to the Oregon Ducks program, he made a name for himself as a quick, albeit undersized linebacker who packs a punch. He started several games last season and recorded an interception.
There won’t be too many of these videos left this season. If this is the last one, I think everyone will consider going it out on a high note.
