LSU Welcomes New Live Tiger Mascot 'Mike VII' On Campus

LSU enters the new football season with a new live mascot.
One of the most fierce live mascots in all of football, the LSU Tigers have kept a live tiger on campus since 1938. Now on their seventh live tiger on campus, Mike VII is an 11-month rescue from Okeechobee, Florida.

The tiger finally made his official appearance in his habitat on the LSU campus after a few days of having LSU veterinarians watch over him closely in his new home. He seems to be adjusting just fine.

Mike VII succeeds Mike VI, who passed after a long battle with a rare form of cancer.
After only a few days in the public eye, Mike VII has already tallied over 20K twitter followers, and is enjoying a new, fully renovated enclosure.
The LSU Football Tigers will be making their season debut with against the BYU Cougars on September 2nd in Baton Rogue. Mike VII will not be attending the game, as the university decided after the death of Mike VI that they would not be showing any future Mikes in their mobile cage for gameday.
