Auburn Football: Chip Lindsey Will Call Rest Of Season From Booth

Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn announced that offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey will be calling the rest of the games this season from the press box. The announcement comes after speculation that Lindsey had his play calling privileges revoked late in the third quarter against Clemson last week.
The decision to move him to the press box and move is part of a corresponding switch with offensive line coach Herb Hand, who will now roam the sidelines.
Malzahn says that the decision to move to the press box was Lindsey’s idea in a statement he made to the press, and reported by AuburnSports.com

“Chip has decided to go upstairs. That’s really where his comfort zone is,” Malzahn said. “That’s where he was the last two years at Arizona State. Just feels like he can get a better feel for the defenses and everything that goes with that”.

Lindsey and Malzahn both denied that play calling duties were taken from Lindsey after the Auburn offense struggled mightily against Clemson. However, on a pivotal fourth down play, Lindsey was seen walking in the opposite direction from the action after having had a discussion with Malzahn on the sideline.
Chip Lindsey was the offensive coordinator at Arizona State for two years before taking a job in the SEC with Auburn. He is in his first year with the Tigers.
