The LSU football team is expected to be without their top offensive playmaker this week.
Coach Ed Ogeron announced on Tuesday that star running back Derrius Guice will miss the Tigers’ matchup against Troy on Saturday.
Orgeron publicly said that Guice wouldn’t play last week as the Tigers prepared to play Syracuse, however, and Guice managed to receive eight carries out of the backfield despite being ruled out, so there’s always a chance he could end up on the field come kickoff.
Orgeron: Derrius Guice is out, but I thought he was going to be out last week and he played. #LSU

This week figures to be different though. Despite the old fool me once axiom, Guice didn’t look good in his limited action against the Orange. He was clearly hampered by the injury to his knee and rushed for only 14 yards on his eight carries.
If such a thing exists, his injury came at a good time. LSU should be able to handle Troy whether Guice is on the field or not. Their SEC schedule kicks into high-gear after this week, with games against Florida, Auburn, Ole Miss, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee and Texas A&M to close out the season.
It makes sense for Guice to sit. The team wants his body as healed up as possible heading into the heart of their season.
