Conor McGregor hasn’t been in the Octagon for nearly a year. After defeating Eddie Alvarez, McGregor took some time off because of the birth of his son. Then the talks between he and Floyd Mayweather picked up and McGregor started training as a boxer.
So when will McGregor return to the UFC? It looks like 2018 is the bestbet.
UFC 219 takes place on Dec. 30 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and figures to be one of the biggest events of the year. There were rumors that might be when “The Notorious” would return to MMA.
According to his coach John Kavanagh , there is now way that is going to happen.
“December 30th is definitely not happening,” he said, according to MixedMartialArts.com “I don’t know how these things get started, but they have a certain way of gaining momentum.”
McGregor fell short of totally ruling out a return, though. He says he needs to lose weight, but didn’t seem opposed to making an appearance on the card.
“Now I need to get the pounds down,” McGregor explained. “Especially if, maybe, Dec. 30 could still happen.”
Conor said he’d be willing to fight on the card if he didn’t have to appear in front of the media. That won’t happen, as the UFC requires that fighters make a certain number of press appearances to promote a fight.
McGregor is likely going to get in the cage sometime in 2018, but exactly when remains unknown.
