Jon Gruden Emerges As Favorite To Be Next Tennessee Football Coach

The Tennessee Volunteers aren’t expected to bring back coach Butch Jones next season.
Despite several successful seasons during his tenure in Knoxville, the Vols have gotten off to a slow start in 2017 and the court of public opinion wants him out.
The speculation has been rampant, and it’s still anyone’s guess who will be tabbed to lead the former SEC powerhouse in 2018, but a surprising name has shot to the top of the list.
Former NFL coach and evil Chuckie doll look-alike Jon Gruden is the odds-on favorite to lead the Vol Walk next season.

Gruden has been linked to jobs in the past, but always said he’s enjoying his work as a commentator. There is no publicly known reason to suspect anything has changed.
Still, his sudden rise to the top of the list, and the gulf between Gruden and the next highest name on the list, former Oregon coach Chip Kelly, is interesting. Kelly is definitely in the market for another job coaching.
How much longer will Tennessee stick with Butch Jones? They might just be biding their time until they can come to terms with their next target.
If it’s Jon Gruden, who isn’t already committed to another coaching job, an announcement could be coming soon.
