The Florida football program is in crisis mode.
After dropping their third consecutive game of the season, the Gators reportedly decided to part ways with head coach Jim McElwain. The news didn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone, but it was the method of delivering the news that caused some shock for some.
Once news of McElwain’s firing surfaced on social media, a handful of Florida players sent out messages expressing frustration with how they learned the news.
Quarterbacks Luke Del Rio and Jake Allen were among those to tweet out their surprise.
What a disaster.
The Gators entered this season with hopes of once again competing for a SEC Championship and spot in the College Football Playoff after winning the SEC East in their first two years under Jim McElwain.
Unfortunately, things have not gone as planned.
With a horrendous offense, the Gators have sputtered and now sit at 3-4 on the season.
Florida defensive coordinator Randy Shannon is expected to serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
Up next for the Gators is a road game against Missouri on Saturday, Nov. 4.
Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
