The Florida football program is set to make a big change at quarterback in Randy Shannon’s first game as interim head coach.
According to multiple reports, Shannon is set to start Notre Dame graduate transfer Malik Zaire under center for this weekend’s road game against the Missouri Tigers.
“Malik is the starting quarterback for this upcoming game at Missouri,” Shannon said in a statement. “This is his opportunity to get this team where it needs to be and not to be satisfied just because he’s the starter.
“Today is an opportunity for him to run the offense and understand the expectations that we have for him. This is not a time for him to feel comfortable and feel like he’s made it. We want him to keep grinding and understand that competition is very good.”
Zaire has appeared in two games this season as a backup for redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks.
The Gators take on Missouri Saturday, Nov. 4 at noon ET on ESPN2.
