LaVar Ball hasn’t been nearly as vocal as you’d expect after his middle son, LiAngelo was arrested for shoplifting in China. The often bombastic and larger-than-life persona that LaVar keeps in the public eye hasn’t reared it’s head to address the arrest, and he might be falling prey to the media mess he created.
People want the Ball family, and if the attention-mongering figurehead isn’t giving it to them, then Saturday Night Live will.
On SNL Weekend Update this week, anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che had a very special guest: LaVar Ball.
Played by Keenan Thompson, they gave LaVar the business out there, and every second of it was gold. At times, even Thompson, a seasoned improv and SNL vet had a hard time keeping himself from cracking up at the ridiculous statements he made as the faux-Ball daddy.
Even while trying to be over the top, most of these things are within reason of LaVar Ball to say on a normal basis. They’re absurd, yes, but not for Ball.
It’s totally believable that he would expect Lonzo to win MVP, the three-point shootout, and to say the Lakers have never lost.
