San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin was playing with a heavy heart on Sunday afternoon against the New York Giants. At approximately 4:00 a.m. of the same day, Goodwin and his wife, Morgan, learned absolutely devastating news.
Morgan and Marquise learned that they had lost their unborn baby boy due to complications during the pregnancy.
“Unfortunately, we lost our baby boy due to some complications, and had to prematurely deliver him early this morning around 4 a.m.,” Goodwin wrote in a post on Instagram. “Although we are hurt, I am grateful for the experience and grateful that God blessed me with a wife as courageous and resilient as Morgan.
“The pain (physically, mentally & emotionally) that she has endured is unbelievable. Please pray for the Goodwin family.”
Goodwin came up with a huge play for his team in the 31-21 victory over New York.
Midway through the second quarter, Goodwin sprinted by Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins and hauled in a pass that he was able to take 83-yards to the house. Before crossing the goaline, Goodwin pointed to the sky.
Then, Goodwin kissed the ball in the endzone as he fell to his knees overcome with emotion.
