For years, Jon Gruden has been the name linked to the Tennessee Volunteers coaching job.
Those talks amplified in recent weeks, following the firing of Vols head coach Butch Jones. But as it turns out, there is another former NFL head coach who could be in play for the job vacancy.
According to a report from Football Scoop, Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano could be a name to watch.
The report states:
Some in the profession reached out to us today to say don’t discount Schiano’s chances. Some we’ve spoken with today said Currie believes if some other things don’t fall into place that Schiano could be the guy.
Schiano previously served as head coach of Rutgers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Another former Ohio State assistant, Tom Herman, went on to be a successful head coach after serving under Urban Meyer. While Schiano already has his own credentials, perhaps he could continue the growing trend of Buckeyes assistants using their jobs in Columbus to catapult back into the spotlight.
