How To Deep Fry A Turkey Without Burning Down Your House

It’s Thanksgiving Day, meaning if you haven’t already begun working on your food for the day, you could be looking for a quick, hassle-free way to cook what is usually the star of the Thanksgiving spread: the turkey.
That’s why deep frying is here to save the day.
Not only is deep frying the bird the most delicious way to cook a turkey, it’s arguably the fastest with just three minutes per pound and five minutes per bird required. It’s the perfect way to speed up your preparations while serving a juicy turkey with the perfect, crispy skin.
There is one fair warning, however. If you have a frozen turkey DO NOT toss it in the oil or you will burn down your house. And no one is really looking for that this holiday season.

If you toss a frozen turkey into hot oil, this is what you will have to deal with.

  • 1 cup salt

Wash bird inside and out, and allow to drain. Rub turkey all over with House Seasoning. Coat turkey with dry rub. Allow the bird to sit until it reaches room temperature.
Heat peanut oil in a turkey fryer or a very, very large stockpot to 350 degrees F. Lower turkey into hot oil, very carefully, making sure it is fully submerged. Fry turkey for 3 minutes per pound plus 5 minutes per bird. Remove turkey from oil and drain on paper towels.
