Lane Kiffin Addresses Rumors Of Return As Vols Football Coach

The search for a new Tennessee Vols football coach has been a complete and utter disaster.
After reports that the program was finalizing a deal with Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano to become the next head coach, Vols fans protested on campus, Tennessee lawmakers contacted the university with their own objections to the hiring and social media was overtaken by negative backlash.
Eventually, the offer to Schiano was pulled and Tennessee must now restart its coaching search.
One name that continues to pop up as the Vols faithful try to identify the right man to bring the program back to prominence is former head coach Lane Kiffin.
On Monday, Kiffin addressed the growing speculation of a potential return to Knoxville with a simple reply to a CBS article titled, “As Tennessee again finds itself engulfed in flames, Lane Kiffin waits by his phone.”
According to Kiffin, he’s not waiting for anything. He’s simply focused on winning a ninth straight game with his current team.

Kiffin led the Vols to a 7-6 record in his lone season as head coach before leaving for USC to replace Pete Carroll, who had left to coach the Seattle Seahawks.
If Kiffin is to return to Knoxville, it looks like Vols fans may need to wait until FAU wraps up this weekend’s game.
The 9-3 Owls take on North Texas on Saturday afternoon in the Conference USA Championship Game. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
