The San Diego State football program’s single-season rushing record has fallen yet again.
Just one season after Donnel Pumphrey set the record of 2,133 yards, current Aztecs star running back Rashaad Penny used a strong performance in the team’s thrilling Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl loss to Army to shatter the record.
Needing just 106 yards to set the new record, Penny put up 221 yards and four touchdowns to bring his single-season total to a whopping 2,027 yards.
It was Penny’s fifth 200-yard performance of the 2017 campaign, tying an NCAA FBS record.
Rashaad Penny is over 200 rushing yards for a fifth straight game, which ties an NCAA FBS record. The others are Marcus Allen (USC, 1981), Barry Sanders (Oklahoma State, 1988) and Jamario Thomas (North Texas, 2004).
