Saquon Barkley is one of the top players in the 2018 NFL Draft class.
The Penn State Nittany Lions star running back is widely projected as a top five pick in April’s draft and if his approach to the NFL Scouting Combine is any indication he could very well be on his way to blowing everyone away at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
For Barkley, the Combine is not only an opportunity to show off his skills to the scouts, but to approach as an athletic competition where he hopes to clearly outshine his peers.
“To be out there with some of the best of the best and the best at your position … It’s not a competitive event but it really is if you think about it,” Barkley said on SiriusXM NFL Radio with Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt, via Sporting News.
“I just want to do the best I possibly can to not only challenge myself but challenge the other backs in there, too. I’m not just going to bash anybody that decides not to [participate]. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. But me, I think it’s important. It helps you see where you’re at personally and against competitors who are competing for the same spot as you.”
Considering how impressive workout videos released by Penn State and Barkley throughout his college career have been, there’s no reason to believe he won’t test off the charts.
During his time at Penn State, Barkley recorded 3,843 yards and 43 touchdowns as he emerged as one of the biggest offensive threats in the nation.
The 2018 NFL Scouting Combine will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 27 and run through Monday, March 5. Running backs will be first to take the field along with offensive linemen and special teamers on Friday, March 2.
