Villanova Basketball: Top Assistant To Become La Salle Head Coach

The Villanova basketball program could have some shakeups to its coaching staff coming for the upcoming season, according to recent reports. According to 247Sports’ Evan Daniels, top Wildcats assistant Ashley Howard is set to become the next head coach at La Salle.
La Salle isn’t too far from Villanova, however, so he will be staying local at one of Philadelphia’s “Big 5” schools.
The “Big 5” refers to Villanova, La Salle, Temple, St. Joseph’s and Penn.
Howard is a Philadelphia native, so his opportunity to remain close to home while taking a head coaching job is a move that made sense.
Howard was instrumental in recruiting some of the top players in recent Villanova history. From the report:

All five seasons Howard was at Villanova the Wildcats entered the NCAA Tournament as either No. 1 or No. 2 seeds. Howard was the primary recruiter for a host of Villanova stars, including Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges and Los Angeles Lakers forward Josh Hart.

Howard is replacing Dr. John Giannini, who mutually agreed to part ways with the university after 14 seasons. .
