There was a lengthy delay early on in a Friday night clash between the Western Michigan Broncos and Syracuse Orange. Western Michigan running back Davon Tucker was serving as the lead blocker on a kickoff return when he was involved in a violent collision with Syracuse linebacker Tyrell Richards.
Immediately after the collision, Tucker collapsed to the turn and was tended to by the team’s training staff.
After observing Tucker, he was taken off of the field on a stretcher. The good news, however, is that the running back was able to give a thumbs up as he was carted off of the field and appeared to have movement in his lower body.
Here is video of the contact that took Tucker out of the game.
It is the second straight night that a player has been carted off of the field. On Thursday night, UCF’s Aaron Robinson was stretchered off of the field after he also suffered an injury on a kickoff. UCF head coach Josh Heupel says that Robinson will “be okay,” but he remains in East Harford to undergo further evaluation.
