The FCS wrapped up an exciting Week 1 of the 2018 college football season which means it’s time for the updated rankings. On Monday, Sept. 3, the American Football Coaches Association unveiled the updated AFCA FCS Coaches’ Poll ahead of Week 2.
The top four remained unchanged, with FCS powerhouse North Dakota State hanging on to the top spot with all 26 first-place votes. The Bison were followed by defending national champions James Madison, South Dakota State, and Sam Houston State.
North Carolina A&T made a big jump into the top 10 after a strong start to the season. After starting the year ranked No. 14, the Aggies knocked off then-No. 6 Jacksonville State in their season-opener on Aug. 25 before traveling to East Carolina to knock off FBS program ECU. North Carolina AT&T now sits at No. 6.
The biggest jump in the poll belonged to Montana, which moved from No. 25 to No. 16 after knocking off then-No. 11 Northern Iowa. New Hampshire, meanwhile, crashed out of the top 10 falling from No. 9 to No. 22.
Delaware and Youngstown State fell out of the poll altogether.
This season, for the first time ever, the AFCA is in charge of the administration of the FCS. It had previously been run by the Southern Conference. The AFCA also administrates the Division II and Division III Top 25 polls.
