Despite only two top-25 match ups, there is no shortage of big games in week 2 of this College Football season. With every team trying to prove themselves so early in the season, here are the top 5 teams that should be on upset alert heading into this weekend.
5: Florida Gators

The 25th ranked team heading into this week are taking on a Kentucky team that is not only looking to start their season 2-0, but one that would like nothing more than to end Florida’s current 21-game winning streak against them. Falling just short of ending the streak in recent years, the Wildcats head into this weekend with one of their most talented senior classes in years. While the Gators are the better team on paper, Kentucky is not a team they can take lightly if they don’t want to be on upset alert.
4: Michigan State

On paper, Michigan State comes into this match-up against Arizona State as the much more talented team, but the number 15 ranked Spartans are coming off of a narrow win in their 38-31 come from behind performance in week one against Utah State. The Sun Devils on the other hand who will be at home are coming off a dominate 49-7 win against UTSA. With a dynamic Sun Devil offense, and Michigan State on the road for the first time this season, this match-up offers a huge amount of upset potential.
3: Stanford

One of only two top 25 match-ups in week 2, number 10 Stanford will be hosting the number 17 ranked USC Trojans in the PAC-12 opener. If the Trojan defense can tighten up from their performance against UNLV last week in which they allowed 6 plays of 20 or more yards, then Stanford is going to have quite the handful considering the explosiveness of the USC offense, but that’s easier said than done, especially when going against a Stanford team that features the potential Heisman candidate Bryce Love.
2: Penn State

After an tough outing that saw Appalachian State take the Nittany Lions to overtime in week one, there are a ton of question marks surrounding this 13th ranked Penn State team, especially heading into a tough week 2 match-up against rival Pitt. It will be crucial for Penn State’s defense to step up if they want to remain undefeated, and it won’t be easy against Pitt’s Kenny Pickett who led a huge upset of Miami in last year’s final regular season game.
1: Georgia

The second of the two top-25 match-ups this week features the 3rd ranked Georgia Bulldogs visiting the 24th ranked South Carolina Gamecocks. While the Bulldogs should feel confident heading into this game, it is never easy when you find yourself playing against a ranked conference opponent on the road early in the season. This game could end up taking a big performance from the Georgia offense if they want to avoid an upset alert.
