Zia Cooke is a five-star point guard recruit in the Class of 2019. The Toledo, Ohio native who stars at Rogers High School, is ranked as the No. 2 point guard in her class and the No. 7 overall prospect.
Recently, the 5-foot-9 baller put on a clinic against East Kentwood and set a new high-school career scoring high by dropping 43 points in her team’s win.

Cooke committed to the Gamecocks on Monday, November 5 at her high school as the Gamecocks continue to establish themselves as “Point Guard U.” Cooke chose South Carolina over Tennessee and Louisville, mainly because of her bond with Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley.
“Zia really believes in (Staley), she really believes that she’s a person who can make her better,” Zia’s father Stratman Cooke said, via The State. “Zia has always looked up to coach Staley. When Zia was little, this was before Zia’s time, I was a very big fan of coach Staley’s when she played basketball, so I would show YouTube videos of her … for Zia to see, and Zia had never even met her and wanted to play for her. She said I want to play for the best because I want to be the best.”
Cooke is currently hoping to lead her high school to a second straight state championship before heading to South Carolina as part of the Gamecock’s top-rated 2019 recruiting class.
