It’s #TransferSZN in college football, with Austin Kendall becoming the latest standout player to enter his name into the NCAA transfer poll. On Friday, January 11, it was reported that the Oklahoma Sooners backup would be considering transfer options. He joins a pool that consists of Alabama’s Jalen Hurts and Ohio State’s Tate Martell, and previously included former five-star Georgia quarterback Justin Fields.
As a true freshman, Kendall served as the backup to Baker Mayfield. He then redshirted for a year and ended up backing up Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray in 2018. Now, he appears ready for a fresh start.

Kendall has already graduated from the University of Oklahoma, so he would be eligible to play immediately and would have two years of eligibility remaining thanks to his redshirt.
Entering the NCAA transfer pool does not mean Kendall will officially leave Oklahoma, but it does give other programs the opportunity to contact him.
If Kendall does leave, it could spell trouble for the Sooners under center.
With Murray reportedly leaning towards entering the 2019 NFL Draft, Kendall would be the obvious choice to start for the team next season. But if he leaves, the Sooners offense will be left in the hands of a freshman.

Kendall’s departure would leave the Sooners with two scholarship quarterbacks: redshirt freshman Tanner Mordecai and true freshman Spencer Rattler, who isn’t scheduled to arrive on campus until this summer. The San Francisco Chronicle reported on Murray plans to submit his name into the NFL Draft.
Throughout his time in Norman, Kendall has completed 28-of-39 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns.
