It’s not often we see recruiting powerhouses such as Alabama fail to retain their players. Alabama is known for burglarizing other teams of their top talent. However, today we saw the Miami football program do the unthinkable. The Hurricanes stole from the most notorious college football program in the nation.
Yes, you read that correctly the Miami Hurricanes stole from the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Countless times the Tide have stolen top tier talent from other programs, but today four-star cornerback Christian Williams flipped his commitment from Alabama to Miami. According to 247 sports, Williams is ranked 20th best cornerback prospect in the nation and the No. 9 prospect in the state of Alabama. Not only did the Hurricanes poach Williams, but they convince him to turn his back on his home state.
Even though his previous commitment to Alabama seemed to be set in stone Williams wasn’t sold on the Tide and continued his school search. During his commitment announcement today at Daphne Highschool he stated: “It was really trying to figure out where I was needed and where I was wanted.”
Well, whatever Miami pitched to Williams it paid off. The Hurricanes went 7-6 last season with a brutal bowl loss to Wisconsin. Their 35-3 loss put their program on blast. Their previous success in 2017 only seemed to be temporary, as their 2018 season was well short of being considered successful.
Williams instantly upgrades the secondary. He will most likely immediately plug into their system once he reaches campus which is another reason why he chose to spurn the Tide.
Williams ended his senior season with 52 tackles and eight interceptions according to the Sun-Sentinel. He also added four kick off returns making him a versatile special teams threat.
