The Iowa basketball program’s path to Selection Sunday is just getting harder and harder, further frustrating their lead play-caller to the point of berating officials at home in the Value City Arena.
No. 22 Iowa hasn’t had the ideal finish down the final stretch of the regular season, and in the final games of the year leading up to the Big Ten Tournament, the Hawkeyes are skidding and are now in danger of completely falling outside of the Top 25 at a point where every win and loss is crucial.
Tuesday night continued their woes with a 20-point loss to unranked Ohio State. The Hawkeyes were only down by three at the half, and then the Buckeyes turned it on, racing out to an 18-point lead with just under nine minutes to play.
The wrenching loss turned even sourer, as Iowa Head Coach Fran McCaffery had some choice words for an official in the team hallway after the game’s conclusion.
According to The Blade’s Kyle Rowland, McCaffery yelled,” You cheating motherf***er!” You’re a f***ing disgrace!”
Uh, wow. Iowa coach Fran McCaffrey was just screaming at an official walking down a hallway of Value City Arena. "You cheating motherfucker! You're a fucking disgrace!"

This rant, brimful of vulgarity, could not come at a worse time for himself and the Hawkeyes. Fans are accustomed to frequent outbursts from coaches aimed toward officials about missed or unwarranted calls, but this is hardly the first occurrence for Iowa’s head coach.
After the game, McCaffery declined to comment after being asked about the alleged incident.
It is more than likely that McCaffery will face some sort of punishment for his comments.
