The 2019 NCAA Tournament has officially wrapped. It all came down to one final game on Monday, April 8 with the No. 1 seed Virginia Cavaliers and No. 3 seed Texas Tech Red Raiders facing off in the tournament final at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The game went down to the wire and treated college basketball fans to overtime before the Cavaliers brought home the first national championship in program history.
Texas Tech punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament Final after knocking off No. 2 Michigan State in the Final Four. They had earned their Final Four bid after a run through the West Region which included wins over No. 14 Northern Kentucky, No. 6 Buffalo, No. 2 Michigan, and No. 1 Gonzaga.
Virginia, meanwhile, knocked off No. 16 Gardner-Webb, No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 12 Oregon, and No. 3 Purdue in the South Region before taking down the surprising No. 5 Auburn Tigers in the Final Four.
This season marked the third time Virginia had ever reached the Final Four, but they were finally able to get over the hump after a disastrous tournament outing last season. It was just one year ago, that Bennett and the Cavaliers entered the tournament as the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament before suffering a stunning upset in the opening round to No. 16 seed UMBC.
