Russell Wilson Is Now The Highest Paid NFL Player

Russell Wilson’s contract dispute with the Seattle Seahawks took over the late free agency period. His unhappiness with his current situation made people believe that he was headed elsewhere. Wilson will be staying in Seattle after he was given a four year, $140 million contract extension, according to Sports Illustrated.

The new deal makes Wilson the highest paid player in the NFL. He had a solid season in 2018 as he finished with 3,455 passing yards and 35 touchdowns. Wilson also led the Seahawks to the playoffs but was unable to get out of the Wildcard round.
While he was named to the Pro Bowl in 2018, Wilson has not been an elite quarterback during his time in the NFL. He did take the Seahawks to consecutive Super Bowls but he had one of the best defenses in NFL history in the Legion of Boom. Marshawn Lynch was also in his prime and took the load off Wilson.
He did not have to do much early in his career because the team was so well built. Wilson is an efficient quarterback as he has thrown for 69 touchdowns in his last seasons. His scrambling ability is one of the best in the NFL as he is always capable of squirming free for a big gain.
Wilson’s new contract broke Aaron Rodgers’ previous record for being the highest paid player in the league. Rodgers is a two-time NFL MVP and is considered to be one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. While Wilson is a good quarterback, he is not as good as Rodgers.
His new contract will put extra pressure on Wilson and the Seahawks in 2019. A target will be added to his back as players will play with extra motivation because of Wilson’s new contract. The Seahawks should contend for the NFC West in 2019 with Wilson’s contract dispute in the past.
