Cleveland Cavaliers Address Rick Pitino Coaching Rumors

There have been some rumors swirling over the weekend that Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has spoken with former Louisville head coach Rick Pitino about the team’s head coaching vacancy. The rumors immediately caught everyone’s attention, especially after Pitino’s success coaching overseas after being run out of the college game.
The rumors were first passed along by Peter Vecsey, who shared them on his Patreon account and were later shared by Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Of course, the rumors rapidly spread and that led to the Cavaliers being forced to address the discussions. Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor said there is “zero truth” to any interest in Pitino.
“False. We are, respectfully, not interested in him at all. No conversations with him by Dan (Gilbert) or anyone else,” a source told Cleveland.com.
Well, the rumors were fun while they lasted.
While the NBA ties seem unlikely, you have to think a Division I program will bite the bullet and go after Pitino to be their next head coach. And if no top programs want to show interest, perhaps he can keep racking up titles in Greece with Panathinaikos.
