Has it ever looked brighter for US soccer than right now? With MLS enjoying its pre-scheduled mid-season break, the USMNT have been in action on home soil once gain.
The USMNT are currently underway playing three consecutive friendly matches against Morocco, Uruguay and Grenada, followed by a Concacaf Nations League title defense against El Salvador.
This is all in preparation for this winter’s World Cup when the US will be facing Iran, mighty England, and Wales.
Two US nationals have recently been named in the top 100 of worldwide transfer values, according to NBC Sports. This comes just days after former Philly Union attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson landed a lucrative contract with Leeds United.
Both of those big hitters will be returning Stateside for one more time this summer with their club sides when the MLS summer friendlies get underway.
Taking place over late July, it will see a number of top European teams face up against MLS sides as part of the European pre-season tour. Taking place across the country, some matches will be played in a number of states with legal sports betting.
Twenty-one year old full back Sergiño Dest who plays his soccer for FC Barcelona in Spain is currently Stateside on national duty. Dest will feature in the opener of the MLS summer friendly schedule when his team takes on Inter Miami in Fort Lauderdale, FL on July 19.
Big hitters Barcelona will actually be facing off twice against MLS sides when they make the journey up the east coast to take on New York Red Bulls on July 30 in New Jersey.
Unlike Dest who came through the Ajax youth academy in the Netherlands but plays for the States, Canadian international Alphonso Davies started his career in the MLS at Vancouver Whitecaps.
Since joining in 2018 Bayern Munich, Davies has gone on to win four back to back titles German Bundesliga titles, a Champions League and a Club World Cup. Davies will be returning to MLS action on July 20 when Bayern take on D.C. United.
Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic is another household name returning home to go up against the biggest and best of the MLS. Pulisic’s Chelsea will face up against Charlotte FC on July 20. Kick off time still to be decided.
Chelsea aren’t the only English Premier League team turning up in the States this summer. Everton and Arsenal will also be playing games in the US. Everton will head to St. Paul to face Minnesota United FC on July 20, while Orlando City will take on Arsenal in Fort Lauderdale on the same date.
Some quarters have derided how the MLS friendly fixtures will provide a further disruption to the American soccer schedule following the midseason international break.
For many soccer fans though, the European pre-season friendlies provide a fantastic opportunity for many to see the biggest stars in soccer in action, and in the flesh.
