Sometimes, accidents happen and that can lead to near-death experience. A pair of Akron football players learned that the hard way Saturday afternoon.
Akron wide receiver Andrew Pratt was shot in the stomach by teammate Scott Boyett in a case of mistaken identity. The shooting happened after Pratt entered the offensive tackle’s apartment without knocking and Boyett thought he was a burglar entering his home.
Boyett rushed Pratt to the hospital before police arrived on the scene. No charges have been filed in the incident as police ruled it to be just an accident.
“We are saddened and concerned to learn of this situation and we hope that Andrew recovers fully,” Akron Athletic Director Larry Williams said in a statement. “While we know the incident occurred at an off-campus location, we will wait to learn more from the Akron Police Department about what occurred. We are keeping Andrew in our thoughts and prayers.”
During the 2015 season, Pratt was the Zips’ third-leading receiver with 28 receptions for 280 yards and a touchdown.
