Former Louisville and current Georgia State guard Kevin Ware made his name known for his gruesome injury endured during the Cardinals’ Final Four appearance.
Today, he hopes to carry the Sun Belt favorite Panthers to the NCAA tournament. Ware, however, will have to overcome a high ankle sprain to do so, and the team will be without their star player for a large chunk of key practice and potentially game time.
Ware is coming off of a medical redshirt and should be a major contributor along all facets of the Panthers squad.
Head coach Ron Hunter announced the injury Tuesday, and with that being said the injury could prove to be a bit more severe with Ware’s well documented leg injuries. In the meanwhile, Hunter will rely on two returning starters – Ryan Harrow and R.J. Hunter – to lead the backcourt through most of the preseason and possibly games early on in the fall semester.
If Georgia State hopes to achieve their high aspirations of making a run deep into March they will need Ware at the top of his game.
Ware averaged 4.5 points and 1.8 rebounds per game during the Cardinals’ NCAA tournament run and is reportedly healthy for the first time since the injury. The Panthers open their season November 14 against Tennessee Temple and in game two will play their most difficult non-conference matchup versus Iowa State.
