NFL scout: No guard worth drafting in first two rounds

In recent years, as the college game has become more geared towards the spread and generating more offense, the talent produced along the offensive line has declined. So much so that one NFL scout told NJ.com’s Mark Eckel that there is no guard worth spending a top two pick on in this year’s NFL Draft.

This echoes what several NFL coaches have said the last few years.

Seattle Seahawks offensive line coach Tom Cable has commented on the lack of top end talent separating themselves from the rest of the pack, resulting in Cable often resorting to converting defensive lineman that show the athleticism to play on the other side of the ball.

The scout interviewed by NJ.com went so far as to say Kansas State’s Cody Whitehair is “just a guy” and an AFC scout called Michigan center Graham Glasgow the best guard prospect in this class.

With a dearth of talent rising to the NFL, expect J.J. Watt to rack up even more sacks next year.
