UFC looking into hosting 2017 event at Yankee Stadium

With mixed martial arts now legal in the state of New York, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is looking at future dates in the Empire State. While it is known that the UFC’s New York debut will take place at Madison Square Garden in November later this year, the promotion is also looking at a well-known outdoor venue.

In a recent interview with Newsday, UFC chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta said the company is looking to host a 2017 event at Yankee Stadium.

“There’s a bunch of other venues we want to go to,” Fertitta said. “We want to go to Barclays [Center], we’ve had discussions with Yankee Stadium to do something next summer there.”

An event at Yankee Stadium would be a remarkable spectacle for the company and sport.

At a time when the UFC has yet to host a major event in an outdoor venue in the United States, this could be the venue that the promotion needs to finally put on the blockbuster show in front of an energetic stadium.
