Florida State defensive lineman Lorenzo Featherston’s playing days are over as he will receive a medical disqualification due to chronic knee injuries, according to Tom D’Angelo of The Palm Beach Post.
Featherston’s medical DQ was announced by Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher, who was speaking to reporters at a booster tour stop.
“That’s not something I want to do,” Fisher said. “That’s what he wants to do. It’s unfortunate because that guy was a player.”
A former four-star recruit out of Page High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, Featherston showed potential as a freshman in 2014 but was slowed by knee injuries. In 2015, he appeared in only five games and registered tackles in one of them. His career ends with 21 tackles (5.5 for a loss), a sack and a forced fumble.
His 6-foot-7, 229 pound frame will be missed, but FSU still has two great defensive ends in Josh Sweat and DeMarcus Walker. Simply put, this was a situation where Lorenzo Featherston had to put his health first, no questions asked.
