Anderson Silva out of UFC 198, may need gall bladder removed

UFC 198 is set to undergo a last-minute change, after former middleweight champion Anderson Silva was forced to withdraw from this weekend’s scheduled bout against Uriah Hall.

According to Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports, Silva is suffering from abdominal pains and may need to have his gall bladder removed.

“Anderson developed abdominal discomfort [Monday and] further evaluation today is consistent with acute cholecystitis,” UFC medical consultant Dr. Jeff Davidson told Yahoo!. “He will be seen by a surgeon today for possible surgery.”

The UFC confirmed the news shortly after.

Silva would need an additional few weeks of recovery if surgery is necessary, and there is currently no word on whether the UFC is looking to reschedule the bout with Hall for a later date.
