Houston mayor still believes Cougars will blowout Oklahoma in opener

Houston mayor Sylvester Turner predicted earlier this year that the Houston Cougars would defeat the Oklahoma Sooners by “14-21 points” to kickoff their 2016 campaign on the gridiron on Sept. 3.

While Turner was just supporting his local team, he doubled down on his comments during a recent Q&A with the Tulsa World.

It would have been easy for Turner to say his mayoral duties influenced his opinion, but he instead decided to say that it was his unbiased analysis of the matchup that led to him so heavily favoring the Cougars.

“It is not a subjective assessment,” Turner said. “I’m being very objective. They are just that good!

“What can I say? Houston is finally getting the attention and respect it deserves. Putting UH and Oklahoma together is equal to a championship game. It’s a hell of a way to start the season!”

There was already going to be plenty of attention on the season-opening matchup, but now Turner has added some extra pressure on the Cougars and has generated even more excitement for the clash. Who knows, Turner’s prediction may end up being correct.
