The University of Louisville will be going through a pretty big change over the next few months as the state will be getting heavily involved in a major overhaul of the school. University president James Ramsey announced he would be stepping down from his post and the board of trustees will be disbanded.
There was no exact explanation as to why Ramsey would be stepping down, but it could have something to do with the basketball team’s escort scandal that came to light last fall.
Kentucky governor Matt Bevin explained his actions to disband the board of trustees on Friday.
“There have been a number of news stories … in recent months, and frankly years, as it relates to the University of Louisville that have shed less than the best light on the university and the commonwealth as a whole,” Bevin said in a released statement.
James Ramsey has been with the school since 2002 and has dramatically helped increase the school’s academic standards for freshman and the graduation rate.
Bevin also said that the new board of trustees would consist of 13 members, 10 of which Bevin will appoint.
