As a college football player, it is sometimes just about waiting your turn to play at the next level. LSU running back Derrius Guice is certainly that right now sitting behind star player Leonard Fournette, but he isn’t upset about having to sit behind a Heisman Trophy candidate.
Guice was a five-star member of the Tigers’ 2015 recruiting class and he did come in and make some kind of impact for LSU. He talked about how he is happy with his current status as he plays behind one of the best running backs in the country.
“I hear it all the time,” he said Fournette. “It doesn’t really bother me. I’m here. I want to be here. And I’m glad I’m in the position that I’m in because I’m learning from one of the best.”
During the 2015 season, Derrius Guice proved his status as a five-star recruit as he had some bruising runs through the season. He totaled 436 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 8.5 yards per carry, two more yards than Fournette.
If Fournette does what many believes he will as leaves for the NFL after the season, Derrius Guice would certainly take over as the next man up for the Tigers.
