The LSU football program enters the 2016 season with hopes.
Everyone knows about star running back Leonard Fournette, a Heisman favorite entering the season, and the team’s loaded defense, but wide receiver Malachi Dupre is very optimistic about the passing game with the season-opener just weeks away.
Dupre recently spoke with Saturday Down South to discuss a number of topics, including the turnover at wide receiver and the improvement of quarterback Brandon Harris.
When it came to Harris, Dupre had some high praise about the team’s starting signal-caller.
“He’s a lot better mentally,” Dupre said. “Of course, he’s bigger, stronger and faster. But the main thing I see is he’s stronger mentally. He’s being a better leader. He’s being a lot more vocal than last year. Being a second-year starter, he knows what to do.
“The biggest thing is we’re more mature, myself (and Harris). With (Harris) being a second-year starter, I feel like he has the ability, and with myself and Travin (Dural) and (reserve junior) D.J. Chark having been here as long as I have, we have great leadership in the room.”
If Harris can take that offseason improvement and turn it into increased production on the field, the Tigers should be sitting pretty as they look to run through the SEC and earn a spot in the College Football Playoff.
