Baylor preparing for season without DT Byron Bonds

The Baylor Bears are preparing to enter the 2016 college football season with a major loss along the defensive front. As it turns out, the program is preparing for the new season with the expectation that senior defensive tackle Byron Bonds will be out for the year.

Bonds has yet to participate in preseason camp due to a knee injury and head coach Jim Grobe does not sound optimistic.

“If he came back after three or four games or midseason and we needed him that would be great,” Grobe said, via John Werner of The Waco Tribune. “I think the way we’re looking at it is we have to prepare to go without him. But I feel really good about our front right now. I think we’re in good shape.”

Bonds was a projected starter at defensive tackle, so that will force Baylor to make some last minute changes to the defensive front before kicking off the new year.

The good news is that Bonds has been out for all of camp, so the defensive line has had plenty of time to work together and build chemistry.
