Northwest Missouri State football players can display GPA on helmets

The Northwest Missouri State football program is set to honor its outstanding student-athletes throughout the 2016 season.

On Thursday,The Kansas City Star‘s Pete Grathoff reported members of the team who excel in the classroom — hold at least a 3.0 — will wear a helmet decal that will showcase their GPA and the name of their athletic advisor.

What a great gesture.

Not only is that a badge of honor for the student-athletes who are able to hold up to a high standard on and off the field, it gives a nod to those behind the scenes who ensure the players remain eligible and are doing what they need to remain on the field.

It’s clear the academic advisors appreciate it as well.

Northwest Missouri State kicked off its 2016 campaign on Thursday night with a dominant 41-14 win over Emporia State.
