Alabama Director of Athletics Bill Battle is set to retire, so the Crimson Tide needed to search for a replacement.
Apparently that did not take long, as the Associated Press reports Alabama is hiring Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne at the same position. An official announcement has yet to be made.
Bill has done a tremendous job as director of athletics, and has accomplished so much during his career,” Bell said, according to the Associated Press.
”His business expertise, coupled with his coaching experience and his strong understanding of the role an athletic department has in the daily fabric of a university, has allowed us to achieve the great successes we have enjoyed during his tenure. We are blessed to have the continued benefit of his counsel.”
Byrne is familiar with the SEC, previously working as an athletic director at Mississippi State and an associate athletic director at Kentucky.
