Five-Star Defensive End Byron Cowart Chooses Auburn

Gus Malzahn and the Auburn Tigers received outstanding news Wednesday morning when No. 1 defensive end Byron Cowart committed to Auburn over Florida.

Cowart is the No. 1 ranked player in the country and will make an immediate impact on the defensive line for the Tigers this upcoming season.

After Auburn hired former Florida head coach Will Muschamp to be their defensive coordinator, momentum shifted in the Tigers’ favor.

Cowart kept his recruitment close to the vest and some will be surprised he chose the Tigers over the Gators.

Although Florida fans will be disappointed, the Gators still have some talented prospects on the board who may choose the Gators. Those prospects include Martez Ivey, CeCe Jefferson, and Jeffery Holland among others.

According to Rivals.com team rankings, Cowart’s commitment pushes Auburn’s class to No. 12 overall.
