England SG John Steele Commits to Duquesne

The Duquesne basketball program added a unique prospect to their program on Wednesday.

And he’s not from the United States…

The England native and Barking Abbey Secondary School shooting guard Steele committed to the Dukes on Wednesday and the team is hoping he can make an immediate impact next season. He chose Duquesne over Florida Atlantic University, Drexel, and Texas-San Antonio.

“(He’s a) solid player with a bright future ahead,” said Frank Holloway, Steel’s coach at Barking Abbey. “You will be very pleased with him over the next four years.”

Duquesne also received some good news when Nebraska transfer Tarin Smith decided to play for the Dukes as well. As a freshman last season, he averaged 4.5 points per game and 1.7 rebounds per game.

“Tarin is a great student who comes from a great family,” Duquesne coach Jim Ferry said. “We recruited him extremely hard out of high school and knew him and his family very, very well. When he announced his decision to transfer, we were very aggressive in pursuing him.”
