Kentucky politician sites comparison to Christian Laettner

While slander during political campaigns has become extremely common practice, a unique tactic was taken by Kentucky politician James Comer. During the heat of an ultra-competitive race for the Republican nomination, Comer sited that his competitor- Hal Heiner- should be compared to former Duke star Christian Laettner.  Over the duration Laettner’s career, he dominated the Kentucky Wildcats and quickly became one of the most hated athletes across the state.

The argument surfaced while on a Kentucky sports radio station and Comer created quite the stir for referring to Heiner as “the Christian Laettner of Kentucky politics.”  Laettner became unanimously disliked by the state of Kentucky after sinking a game-winning shot during the 1992 NCAA Tournament advancing the Blue Devils to the Final Four while sending the Wildcats home.

Laettner responded to the jab in good humor coming back with a joke of his own:

Whether you like him or not, Laettner was indeed a proven winner during his Duke career and maybe Heiner could use a little of that Laettner magic to overcome Comer.
