Former Auburn Tigers defensive back Kamryn Melton will leave the program and transfer to Troy. Brandon Marcello of Al.com reported Melton’s decision and Melton also made an announcement on his personal Twitter page.

Melton is one of five defensive backs to leave Auburn since the end of last season, joining Derrick Moncrief, Joseph Turner, Kalvaraz Bessent and Mackenro Alexander. He appeared in three games for the Tigers back in 2013 and did not play at all this season as Auburn went 8-5 (4-4 SEC) and lost in overtime to Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl.
Now, instead of trying to earn a starting position under new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, Melton will head to Troy to play for a team that went 3-9 (3-5 Sun Belt) last season in longtime coach Larry Blakeney’s final season and is set to enter its first year under former Kentucky offensive coordinator Neal Brown.
Competition wise, it’s a step down for Melton, but he’s obviously going to want to play where he’ll have a shot at significant playing time, and Auburn just isn’t the place where that will happen for him.
With Troy, he’ll have a shot at making an impact and standing out in a smaller conference.
