Offensive guard Branton Autry, a transfer student out of Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, has committed to the Florida Gators. ESPN’s Derek Tyson reported Autry’s decision.

Standing 6’4″, 320 pounds, Autry was also considering Oklahoma, Arkansas, Arizona State and Ole Miss. As a JUCO transfer, he will be immediately eligible to play. Not surprisingly, Florida first-year head coach Jim McElwain is excited.

Autry is also ranked the top JUCO transfer on Scout.com and will surely help provide plenty of protection for quarterback Treon Harris, who took over as the team’s starter last season and is known to like to use his legs, specifically to the tune of 332 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns in playing all but three of the Gators’ games last year.
Hopefully, Autry can provide extra protection so that the team’s offense can get back to the level it was on during the Urban Meyer years.
Florida was mediocre once again in its final season under Will Muschamp, going 7-5 (4-4 SEC) before defeating East Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl. The McElwain Era opens in Gainesville against New Mexico State on September 5.
