Alabama early signee ruled academically ineligible

In what is easily one of the strangest developments in college football today, an early signee for the Alabama Crimson Tide has been ruled academically ineligible for the 2015 season. The early signee, DeSherrius Flowers, is a running back and had attended classes in Tuscaloosa for the spring semester. He had also participated in spring practice for the Tide.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Flowers, a four-star running back from Vigor High School in Mobile, was one of two running backs in Alabama’s top ranked 2015 recruiting class along with Damien Harris from Kentucky. Flowers had a good enough transcript to be allowed to enroll early at the university and take classes in the spring.

In what was a strange and unclear reason, Flowers was told he would not be enrolled for classes this fall “due to a recently discovered initial eligibility issue.” There is no further information on the situation. Flowers’s high school coach, Ashley Johnson, spoke with the AJC about the situation and his future at Alabama.

“As far as his career, this is nothing. This isn’t even hardly a bump in the road. In fact, there are some advantages are some advantages of this – you get more acquainted with school, and you get more acquainted with (the football program). You’re only going to be bigger and better going into the next year.

This will be the fourth running back Alabama has lost entering into the 2015 season. The team lost Tyren Jones (dismissal), Altee Tenpenny (transfer), and Bo Scarborough (injury). The team now only returns Kenyan Drake and Derrick Henry as the two veteran running backs for the 2015 season.

As if the offensive situation for the Crimson Tide couldn’t get uglier than their quarterback competition, of which there essentially is none.
