Perhaps more people are appreciating the finer notes of the sweet game of baskets and balls, but overall attendance at men’s college basketball games is up for the 2014-15 season compared to the previous year, the NCAA announced.
The NCAA notes that in all divisions, I, II, and III, 32.4 million fans attended games overall, an increase of 480 fans over the 2013-14 season. 739,000 fans also attended the 2015 NCAA tournament
And while the total attendance for DI games were down in 2013-14, the NCAA recorded that the 27.4 million who did tune in for the upper tier games, accounted for the ninth highest total in history.
As their names suggest, the Big Ten beat out all other conferences in overall average attendance for the 39th straight year. The Big Ten was followed by the Atlantic Coast, Southeastern, Big 12 and Big East.
Syracuse led other schools with the highest average home game attendance (23,854) for the second consecutive year, followed by Kentucky (23,572), Louisville (21,386), North Carolina (19,582) and then Wisconsin (17,279.)
Kentucky on the other hand, lead the nation in both total home and away games, with more than 845,000 fans watching the Wildcats play. Kentucky was followed by Wisconsin and then by national champion, Duke.
