Texas Christian University student Harry Vincent has been suspended earlier this academic year for posting offensive tweets.
The tweets have since been taken down, but read as follows:
“#Baltimore in 4 words: poor uneducated druggy hoodrats”
“This is clearly not a religion of peace. Stop islam 2k15, enough is enough! @BarackObama needs to step up and take action”
“Almost as tan as a terrorist. Going to be thoroughly disappointed if I’m not racially profiled on my trip to gulf shores.”
As retribution for these tweets, TCU has severely limited Vincent’s liberties on campus. Functionally, he may only step on campus to go to class or other academic buildings like the library. He cannot live on campus or take part in co-curricular activities like clubs, intramural sports, gym use, or attend any of the University’s sporting events.
As the quality of Vincent’s life on campus has dramatically deteriorated, he is considering a transfer from TCU
“At this point, if this punishment is to stay in place, I would not feel comfortable returning. And I would not feel comfortable funding an institution where I don’t just have my basic rights,” Vincent said.
Vincent is also responsible for completing the TCU mandated course “Issues in Diversity” as well as 60 hours of community service before he can resume normal participation in campus events.
